Maui - 7

Maui 7
The Whales
and
The Food

I am combining two days of food together today. I forgot to add yesterday's lunch. We went back to Down the Hatch in Lahania for lunch. We split a lobster and crab grilled cheese sandwich. It came with French fries and the added beer. Can I just say Yummm? Grilled cheese heaven!!!

Back to today. Guess what we had for breakfast?  Not to break tradition, we had a tropical breakfast of Kuai coffee, Maui honey on toast and pineapple. The breakfast of champions, or at least tourists. The wildlife was abundant today. Both Myrtle and Lucille were back, as were several whales. We saw a big and small whale traveling together. Since Maui is where the mothers take their young, we can assume that it was a mother and a calf. We saw blows, tails, backs and breeches. We saw several splashes, almost like they were playing.

Today's adventure was to Pa'ia. The trip was recommended by our youngest daughter Tara. It is a cute, rustic, beachy kind of town east of the airport on the north part of the island. We went for the tacos. While we waited we had another shave ice. This shop claimed to have the best shave ice  on Maui.

This was a split mango and coconut shave ice over macadamia nut ice cream. Perfect mid morning snack.

After more window shopping we landed at The Fish Market Restaurant (a tourist destination in itself) for fish tacos. We split an order of fish tacos that came with rice and potato salad.

Thank you Tara and Ricky Robinson for buying us a great tasting lunch! We have found that splitting meals is best for us. Besides, then there is room for dessert. Oops, we ate that first.
We saw the sad side of Maui on this trip. A homeless couple living in the store fronts. They were having a difficult time for sure. We had seen evidence of homelessness near the beaches, but this was right in your face. I guess if one is homeless, there is no more beautiful place to be.

Back to the condo, we sat on the lanai watching the ocean. The most fabulous show was about to appear. We saw at least f our whales on the horizon with several blows and body parts out of the water. Those pictures are embedded in my mind. Probably a good thing you can't go there.

I hope you enjoyed your visit to my blog. Have yourself a fabulous day!
